It soothes a baby’s fretful cry
When hummed in lilting lullaby;
It serenades a bashful heart
And faithful promises imparts;
It calls to arms in time of war
And causes patriot hearts to soar,
Then sounds the victory bugle call
That calls home soldiers one and all.
It stirs the embers of romance
And causes young and old to dance;
It soars in worship to our Lord
In swells of melodies and words.
E’en when we come to life’s demise,
Music brings peace to closing eyes,
And to the sorrowing, grieving heart,
Kind comfort and sweet rest imparts.
Life’s richest gift for all man’s days —
Music deserves the highest praise.
