SHIP AND CANNON - PDPHOTO

THE ANCHOR’S AWAY

Chorus

Heave! Ho! Heave! Ho!
Over the rim and into the stow;
The anchor’s away, and we have to go.
Heave Ho, me mates, heave ho!

Verse 1

I had shore leave, but now ’tis done,
And I must sale at rise of sun,
To join the fight two weeks begun,
Heave Ho, me mates, heave ho!

Chorus

Heave! Ho! Heave! Ho!
Over the rim and into the stow.
The anchor’s away, and we have to go.
Heave Ho, me mates, heave ho!

Verse 2

I kissed my love and wished her well;
Said I must make my way to hell;
To win this war my soul I’d sell,
Heave Ho, me mates, heave ho!

Chorus

Heave! Ho! Heave! Ho!
Over the rim and into the stow;
The anchor’s away, and we have to go.
Heave Ho, me mates, heave ho!

A Lesson In Thanksgiving

FIRST THANKSGIVING - PUB DOMAIN

Pilgrims reached the blessed shore,
But bitter winters were in store.
Death and anguish played their part.
Still, ’twas with a thankful heart
That they gathered to expound
Upon the God whose gifts abound.

We, who in their footsteps trod,
Though they lay beneath the sod,
Now do take the lesson learned
From their lives, and, in our turn,
We prepare to thank and praise;
To that same God our anthems raise.

And just as they faced troubled days,
Through hardships grievous made their ways,
So, now, such grievous times we face,
That ne’er before have taken place.
Yet from their lesson we take heart
And lift our songs with grateful hearts.

We will not bow to troubled thoughts,
Nor in the throws of fear be caught,
We have too rich a heritage.
So with forefathers we engage
To praise and sing and laugh and play
And celebrate Thanksgiving Day.

If We Care Enough . . .

GOLIAH - GOSPEL GIFS

I know people — and I’ve read much about others — who are stuck in a terribly hurtful, life-destroying situation, but seem to do nothing about getting out of it or changing it. So many of those people fail to act because they see themselves as victims — people who have no options. They feel they are just not brave enough to pay the price it might cost to effect real change. What they don’t understand is this truth:  A majority of the people in this world who have brought down evil, hurtful, life-destroying situations have not been brave people. They have been people who cared.

Sometimes taking a stand and fighting against what’s hurtful and wrong has nothing to do with courage. It has to do with caring enough to do the right thing.
