Color Me Happy Series – Pink

When you feel your emotions are starting to sink,
Think pink.
When you’re fed up with politics and all the stink,
Think pink.
When you’re so mad your panties are all in a kink,
Think pink.
When losing your sanity’s just on the brink,
Think pink.

And why should you choose such a color, you ask?
Because when we choose in pink’s color to bask,
We’re cuddled and coddled in this pleasant shade.
It pampers and pets us and makes our hearts glad.

God, in His infinite wisdom did choose
Pink as a color important to use
When bringing the dawn of a new day alive
And when setting the sun to usher in night.

There’s something quite primal in pink I have found —
So elemental it’s almost profound.
We respond as if there’s an umbilical link.
So whatever the problem — to fix it, think pink.

Color Me Happy Series – Red

I actually posted this piece once last year, but it fits my new series, so I’m including it here.

RED SWATCH

RED

Red is fire and passion.
It lives; it shouts; it takes possession
Of every scene in which it plays a part.
It is the exclamation mark of life.

It speaks of blood that flows throughout our veins.
It speaks of hate that steals away that blood.
It speaks of love that overcomes all hate.

It’s energy unleashed:
Invigorating, stimulating, titillating, aggravating.

Bold, emphatic, quite dramatic;
Life-inspiring, soul-empowering:
Red!

Color Me Happy Series — Turquoise

Turquoise is not a color pure.
It is a combination –
An adulteration.
Yet it does such lovely things
To my imagination.

Turquoise – I find it all around:
It spreads throughout the sky,
In water flowing by.
It’s woven throughout lovely stones
That catch my eye.

And so, a paradox I find:
That such a hybrid shade –
From other colors made –
Has beauty so distilled it makes
My heart quite glad.

Color Me Happy Series — Orange

Welcome to my second poem in this series.
`

ORANGE

Orange is the only color I don’t like.
I’m not exactly sure why that should be.
I love the color red, and that is pretty close.
And often something pink will pleasure me.

But orange — well it somehow seems to agitate.
It makes me restless and so out-of-sorts.
And I feel bad, because it isn’t orange’s fault,
So I do orange occasionally just to be a sport.

But there are some orange things of which I am a fan:
The round, ripe, juicy fruit that we pluck from a tree,
The brightly orange-wrapped Reese’s peanut butter cups,
And candy corn eaten by the handfuls pleasure me.

Color Me Happy Series — Yellow

I’ve written a few poems about colors, but not a complete rainbow. This past week, however, I started considering writing a whole series. I decided to challenge myself with that endeavor and to put together a group of at least 10 ‘color’ poems, including one each for black and white. I’ll use the others I’ve already written as a jumping off place, and as the first in this series I offer my “Yellow” poem.

YELLOW

YELLOW POEM PICSYELLOW

Yellow sun, yellow moon,
Yellow ribbon on yellow balloon;

Yellow crayons for coloring,
Yellow bird that chirps and sings.

Yellow squash ripe on the vine,
Yellow daffodils — all mine.

Yellow hair, with cheeks so pink,
Yellow lemonade to drink;

Yellow duckies, yellow chicks,
Yellow grapefruit freshly picked;

Yellow butter drips and drops
From tender, yellow corn-on-cob.

Yellow curtains, crisp and bright,
Yellow anti-bug porch light;

But yellow has its ugly side:
Yellow fever; could have died;

Yellow-bellied, yellow streak,
Yellow-livered, backbone weak.

And sometimes yellow can’t be seen:
It hides in blue and turns to green.
